Referral for Specialised Care
Connecting you to the right specialist at the right time.
When your health needs go beyond the scope of general practice, our GPs will coordinate referrals to appropriate specialists and allied health providers. Living in a regional area should not mean going without access to specialist care.
What we provide
- Referrals to medical specialists including cardiologists, gastroenterologists, orthopaedic surgeons, and more
- Allied health referrals — physiotherapy, psychology, dietetics, occupational therapy
- Referrals for hospital-based procedures and investigations
- Coordination with SALHN and tertiary hospitals in Adelaide when required
- Medicare-rebated specialist referrals where applicable
- Telehealth specialist consultations arranged for patients who cannot travel
- PATS (Patient Assistance Transport Scheme) eligibility guidance for eligible patients travelling to specialists
Who is this for?
Any patient whose condition requires the expertise of a specialist or allied health professional beyond what can be provided in general practice.
What to expect
Your GP will discuss the referral with you at your consultation, explain why it is recommended, and help you understand what to expect from the specialist appointment. Referral letters are prepared by your GP and sent directly to the specialist.
